Dominance of Mansonia titillans (Walker, 1848) (Diptera: Culicidae) in an urban area, in the south of Brazil

In the beginning of the second semester of 1984, a dense population of Culicidae was found in the vicinity of Lake Igapó, situated at the southern region of Londrina City, Parana State, Brazil, file present study focused on identifying the Culicidae species responsible for this phenomenon, determining their peak of activity, was welt as suggesting some control measures. Collections were made using human baits. The predominant species was Mansonia titillans, which shich showed to be every agressive, to have a highly populational density, to start activities at sunset and to present a peak of blood-feeding activity varying according to the duration of the photophase.
