Changes in Land Use and Land Cover in the Headwaters of the Lavapés River Basin and Impacts on Stormwater Runoff

The processes of geographic space occupation typically occur within areas defined by the boundaries of a watershed. Even if individuals or planners overlook or disregard this fact, the occupation of a portion of the territory with anthropogenic activities inevitably affects the dynamics of natural processes. This study analyzes changes in land use and land cover in the Headwaters of the Lavapés River Watershed (CBHRL), in Botucatu (SP), between the years 2002 and 2022. High-resolution images available in the Google Earth Pro application were used, which were classified and post-processed using the Land Change Modeler module. The analyzed data indicate significant changes, including an expansion of urbanized areas and a reduction of natural areas, which has altered infiltration and surface runoff rates.
