Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) are essential for biodiversity protection and the regulation of ecosystems and water resources. The conservation of these areas requires integrated actions and the use of technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which enable accurate remote monitoring. This study assessed the native vegetation cover of PPAs associated with water bodies in Paraná, comparing raster data on land use and land cover between 2008 and 2023 using vector files that delineate APP strips through GIS software and geoprocessing techniques. Results indicated that approximately 225,000 hectares were converted to native vegetation, representing a net increase of 9.13% compared to 2008. Simultaneously, 4.67% of the PPAs experienced native vegetation loss due to deforestation. Additionally, 40.45% of the PPAs remained under alternative land use. Overall, native vegetation in the PPAs increased in 2023. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of geotechnologies in environmental management by providing accurate data that support public policies and environmental education initiatives.
