Re-design of AtoM for digital curation in museum environments and communication

Objective: This research aims to study the possibility of using AtoM for the description and representation of museological objects, specifically in historical museums.
Methodology: The research is participatory theoretical and exploratory with a theoretical survey on Digital Curation and museological description, in the dialogic space of Information Science and a comparison of the descriptive forms of the AtoM with the descriptive model of the Guidelines for Information for CIDOC Museums from 1995.
Results: As a result, AtoM represented the historical collection in a satisfactory way and presented many functionalities that make it flexible to adapt to certain emerging problems.
Conclusions: The research whose results we are now forwarding, while presenting an answer to the question presented, shows the need for more in-depth research on museological standards that can contribute to a possible customization of the AtoM, capable of meeting the most complex needs of museological institutions and favoring democratization and access to cultural heritage, in both physical and digital environments, for present and future generations
