Documentary Language and the organization of isotopies for the Representation of Knowledge

Objective: To analyze the importance of documentary language for the organization and representation of information contained in documents, and to reflect on how practices and strategies from French semiotics can contribute to understanding the semantic correlations structured in the construction of documents, known as isotopy.
Method: Qualitative and exploratory, this study investigated theories about semantic correlation in the configuration of statements. This study conducted a survey of published materials in the field—journals, dissertations, and theses—to systematize the concepts inherent to knowledge organization. The aim was to highlight documentary language and the contributions of terminology, thus contributing to the organization of knowledge and information, as well as to the analysis of knowledge organization, and to the analysis of valences and isotopies in the constitution of statements.
Results: Defining a value in documentary language allows semiotics to become operational, since, in science, this value is the result of a logical path of signification, thus ensuring that the isotopy demarcates, through informational objects conveyed by simulacra, concepts, and consequently, knowledge.
Conclusion: Applying semiotics to the validation of the isotopy allows documentary analysis to identify semantic and semiotic aspects, which are marked by a logical or fiduciary nature, thus evidencing the logical or axiomatic formation of documentary language.
