Dossier presentation: Studies of climate, mood and atmosphere in Brazil
Keywords:
affections, atmosfere, mood, stimmungAbstract
This article introduces the special issue Studies of Climate, Mood and Atmosphere in Brazil. The text begins by acknowledging a field of study that is still under construction – Mood Studies or Atmospheric Studies. It then traces a genealogy of the concept of atmosphere, central to this field, beginning with the work of Hermann Schmitz and including commentators and contributors such as Gernot Böhme. The article subsequently establishes a dialogue with other recurring concepts in the field, such as Stimmung, mood, and structure of feeling, showing how these ideas form part of a constellation of concepts that help us understand the imprecise and ethereal nature of such phenomena. Finally, we discuss the current state of the field’s organization both in Brazil and internationally.
