Abstract

Situated within the city of Santa Maria, RS, the Mantenedouro São Braz serves as a sanctuary for the recovery and shelter of wild animals rescued by competent authorities. Beyond its role in animal welfare, the Mantenedouro also plays a vital role in raising awareness about nature conservation through visitor education programs. However, given the challenges associated with reaching the location and the lack of clear signage for internal navigation, the Mantenedouro's management sought assistance from the Department of Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Santa Maria for the development of a spatial orientation project through the registration of an extension project. This collaboration led to the development of a spatial orientation project, which involved conducting exploratory site assessments, designing a comprehensive map, and preparing a signage manual. The resulting study underscores the significance of effective spatial orientation within the facility, ultimately enhancing its utility and fostering a deeper connection with the environment.
