“Bible, Ox, Bullet”: from the Empty and Delirious Amazon

Abstract

Worlds that are continually invented and reinvented in a web of representations and identity processes that subtract the “other”. “Can anyone call a native?”, the actor and musician O Novíssimo Edgar presents us in his performance this “other” story of the past that is inseparable from the present. Initially, based on the short film by Silvio Margarido (Correria, 2021), I will address one of the justifications for the genocide of the “infidels” and aim to discuss how the imaginary merges with religious dogmas, provoking the devout delirium of all who are part of the colonizing machinery in the Acrean Amazon. Next, I will present the delirium of purifying the forest into pastures and the effects of the dead forest logic, delving into the feature film produced by Gerson Albuquerque (A vida sem vida, sem morte, sem nada, 2018). Finally, I intend to discuss the “dying land”, where nothing lives or bears fruit. However, the memory of a land without deaths can make, create and rebuild different ways of living through the multiple ways of being and existing in the world.
