Ler levantando a cabeça: entre a rememoração e a reminiscência

Abstract

This article proposes the metaphor of “reading while lifting the head” (Barthes, 2004) as a way to understand literary reading as a gesture that interrupts the flow of reading, not due to distraction, but as a result of memory activation. We understand that, in this moment, text and reader become entangled in a relational experience, in which two modes of memory are articulated: recollection, linked to the conscious identification of intertextual references, and reminiscence, which emerges as an involuntary flash. Based on this distinction, we propose that the act of “reading while lifting the head” causes a shift in reading capable of reinscribing meanings by intertwining the present moment of reading with the reader’s memories.
