Memory, culture and imaginary in the Arraial do Pavulagem: educational experiences in the Amazon

Abstract

This article analyzes the Arraial do Pavulagem, an Amazonian cultural manifestation located in Belém, Pará, based on the categories of memory, culture, and imaginary. It is grounded in the understanding that culture constitutes a dynamic field of meaning production, in which individuals construct knowledge through experience, participation, and collective practices. The study aims to understand how these dimensions are manifested and articulated within the Arraial do Pavulagem. Methodologically, this is a qualitative study developed through literature review and documentary analysis. The results show that the Arraial do Pavulagem can be understood as a pedagogical territory in which educational processes are built collectively, experientially, and sensibly, articulating memory, cultural production, and the construction of the Amazonian imaginary. It is concluded that the movement not only preserves traditional knowledge but also re-signifies it, contributing to the construction of cultural identities and to broader understandings of education in the Amazonian context.
